Field of work
Huseyin Emlik is a PhD Fellow affiliated with the doctoral program in Responsible Innovation and Regional Development (RESINNREG). His research project, "Navigating Dual Challenges: Healthy Ageing and Migration in Norway," investigates how forced displacement impacts the healthy ageing process and the utilization of municipal health services among foreign-born older adults.
His work focuses on understanding the complex interplay between migration history, ageing, and healthcare navigation. By employing Constructivist Grounded Theory and participatory approaches such as Photovoice and co-creation workshops, Huseyin aims to develop actionable strategies for more equitable and inclusive public health services. The project is conducted in close collaboration with interestholders in Bergen Municipality to foster responsible innovation in the public sector.
Huseyin has an extensive background in sociology. Alongside his doctoral research, he continues to serve as an advisor and project coordinator at the Center for Migration Health (SEMI) in Bergen, where he leads several national and international projects related to refugee health and interprofessional collabration. His expertise includes migration health, social innovation, and health equity. His research focus further extends to minority studies, regional development, and the dynamics of rural populations. He also engages with critical perspectives on colonialism and post-colonialism to understand their impact on subaltern and displaced groups.
