Field of work

Mathematical modelling is a useful tool to improve how we understand phenomena ranging from smoldering fires to airplane boarding. In one of my research projects, we compare different strategies aimed at reducing the total time used to board an airplane.

Surprisingly, some of the best strategies also provide a recipe for making high resolution lenses in so-called metamaterials. Even more seemingly unrelated fields are invloved as we analyze the problem using geometrical methods and analogies to the theory of relativity and how light refracts at the interface between air and water.  See more HERE.

As a background I have a Phd in Statistics from NTNU. I have also spent some time with reliability and uncertainty analyses of the large gas transport network crisscrossing the seabed of the North Sea.
