Field of work
Hilde Hofslundsengen is a Professor of Education at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), with expertise in early childhood education and care (ECEC), children's language development, emergent literacy, and multilingualism. Her research has focused on how interactions and language and learning environments in ECEC settings influence children's language, reading, and writing development, with particular emphasis on emergent writing, shared reading, vocabulary development, and second-language learning.
She has extensive experience with intervention studies, longitudinal research, and experimental research designs, and has led several research projects and work packages funded by, among others, the Research Council of Norway. She currently leads the national research school NORBARN, funded by the Research Council of Norway.
Her professional background combines research, teacher education, and practical experience as a speech and language therapist, teacher, and ECEC teacher. She has supervised many master's students and doctoral candidates and contributes actively to research leadership, scientific publishing, and knowledge dissemination. Her research has been published in national and international journals, particularly within the fields of emergent literacy, multilingualism, children who stutter, and the quality of pedagogical practices in ECEC.
Throughout her career, she has pursued practice-oriented research that strengthens the knowledge base of ECEC professionals and supports positive learning and developmental opportunities for all children.
